Our shop foreman supervises the teardown process.

The old cell showed signs of degradation and was no longer safe for motorsports use.

The Small Fortune Racing differential carrier assembly. Inside, there's a Wavetrac differential.

After our successful outing at the Dixie National Tour, we started the teardown process to install the differential from Small Fortune Racing. The SFR carrier assembly is used to house a Wavetrac differential that was originally intended for a Volkswagen Golf.

The “stock” spool unbolted pretty easily, and we removed the rear suspension to make way for the new rear end. The differential arrived and we’re getting ready to weld brackets onto the rear bulkhead to mount the unit.

We also realized that the Fuel Safe fuel cell was a solid 13 years old—simply too old to be safe, even for a car that’s only going to be used for autocrossing. We removed the old bladder, and we’ll be sending it back to Fuel Safe to be remade.

That differential housing is a neat bit of engineering. Do you have more detailed pictures of how the bearings are housed? I checked out SFR's site and couldn't find anything.

The bearings press into the trapezoidal side plates. I can take more pictures before we do the final install. The mounts have been tacked in so that it's lined up with the engine sprocket and we removed the engine today so we could reinforce/clean/weld/paint the rear framework.

and perhaps weld in mounts for a ZX-10? What type of paint on the frame? Epoxy?
