We did some brain-noodling and realized that this is the fourth autocross season for our LeGrand. In magazine years, that’s like four lifetimes. We started off this season with a trip up to the Dixie National Tour at the now familiar South Georgia Motorsports Park. The course tends to favor stock and mildly prepared cars that are good at transitions, but we always seem to have a good time anyway.
Despite not being in the car for five months, Per drove decently on the first day of competition, running clean times without cone penalties. He improved 2.2 seconds over the course of the three runs, finishing the first day just .08 out of first place. A “new” B Modified LeGrand is being campaigned over on the west side of Florida and its drivers were sitting in first and third positions around our project car.
We blew out some more cobwebs on the second day of competition, starting off even stronger and wound up taking the win by .6 seconds over Howard Scharf. Pete Schroeder, our co-driver, had his best finish to date, getting fourth out of the seven competitors.
