What are the little hand looking things on the edge uprights of the wing?
The panels came with five louvers. We only needed two, so we cut them to length.
We then traced the outline of the louvers onto the fender. We were able to remove the original mirrors as well; we don't need them for Solo use.
We're hoping this modification decreases lift at speed.
While we were working on our front fenders, we noticed that the rear wing's end plates are exactly the height of our toddler's head. A set of corner protectors from IKEA provided a whimsical solution to this problem.
One problem with having closed fenders on a sports racer is that a high pressure area develops in the front wheel wells. This can be relieved by adding vents or louvers on the top of the wheel arches. We purchased a pair of carbon fiber louver panels from Hoerr Racing Products. After cutting out the underlying fiberglass, we riveted the panels in place.
We’ll be attending Dixie Region’s Axis vs. Allies event this weekend in Georgia, so we’ll get a chance to try out our new setup at speed.
Ha! The caption on that picture explains what those are....
