At 8:10 there is an AW11 MR2 Rally car! Awesome. The Saab looked smooth through there, didn't overshoot the corner. How was the big water crossing?
We got through scrutineering without any issues.
Jason rented a R3 head and neck restraint from Safe Drives.
Our friends at SaabRally.com got their new car all together, only to have their event end in a light roll on Stage 7.
Our broken Bilstein. There should be a shock shaft there.
Oddly enough, we found ten million-way adjustable Gabriel shock absorbers at AutoZone.
We had a long but successful weekend at the Susquehanna Trails Performance Rally in Wellsboro, Pa. The event was held over two days and we finished mid-pack in G2 (4th out of 7 starters) and were 22nd out of 41 starters overall. A whopping 15 cars DNF’d.
The event was tough on both man and machine, we broke a shock absorber on Friday and did some damage to our super-tough skidplate, but we found a replacement shock absorber (a Gabriel) in a nearby town for a whopping $16. We realize that most competitors will typically spend 100 times that amount per ‘corner’ but we didn’t really have that option on a Friday night in rural Pennsylvania. The Gabriel was actually just about as effective as the 30 year-old Bilsteins we had been using—we found those at a swap meet last year for $80 for the set of four.
With the car buttoned back together, we ran the second day without any major hitches, aside from another loose engine mount late in the day. We got used to maintaining more speed on the tight mountain roads and our average speed climbed from mid 40s to the low 50s over 9-12 miles of rough stage. That’s faster than it sounds. We’ll post video to prove that point shortly.
Next up, we’ve got suspension and other improvements to help us keep our track record intact.
Here’s some video of all of the cars, we’re at around 7:10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Iwol6Ze-W4
Pete Kuncis will be uploading pictures here shortly: http://www.onalimbracing.com/photos/2008_Susquehannock_Trail_Rally/121.htm
