Time to Shift Gears

Update by Tom Suddard to the BMW 325is project car

Our BMW has been sitting comfortably next to our other back-burner projects.

BMW shift bushings are fragile, but luckily cheap and easy to find.

It has a big task ahead of it: crisscrossing Florida as the photo car for our Orange Blossom Tour.

Our 1987 BMW 325is hasn’t had much attention lately. In fact, it hasn’t even been registered for nearly a year, instead comfortably collecting dust in our office showroom. As anyone who’s ever owned more than one old car knows, sometimes projects fall by the wayside as other cars take up all available time and money. Our BMW suffered this fate, but we’re about to bring it back from the dead.

Step one of this resurrection is freshening our shift bushings, which are one of the reasons the car hasn’t been driven. We’ve already replaced our shift bushings once, but a teenage kid can’t exactly be called “gentle” when it comes to shifting a sports car. Luckily, Redline Bimmer Performance had everything we needed in stock.

We’ll be diving under our BMW this weekend to replace these bushings, as well as anything else that needs fixing. Then we’ll put a license plate back on it, because it has a big task ahead of it: crisscrossing Florida as the photo car for our Orange Blossom Tour, which starts March 3rd.
