Instead of loading it into the GRM van, we just tossed the table up on the Miata's parcel shelf.
As I continue getting settled in my apartment, I realize how useful a Miata is for hauling furniture. Last night, I picked up a table that a co-worker had left for me at the office. I wanted to expedite the process, so instead of loading it into the GRM van (and thus having to return the van later), I just tossed it up on the Miata’s parcel shelf and strapped it to my roll bar with a couple bungee cords.
I was doing this near midnight because I’m more of a night person when it comes to this type of productivity. One night when I couldn’t sleep, I went out to the garage (of my parents’ house at the time) and installed a transmission into my brother’s car by myself. I didn’t even change out of my pajama pants.
Anyhow, I’ve done this several times now to move furniture. The luggage rack I bought online, though a bit pricey, has proven incredibly useful as well.
Pardon the low-quality picture; I do have a good digital camera, but I didn’t have it on hand at the time. I’ll always remember what a photography professor once told me: “The best camera in the world is the one you have with you.”
By that same token, I’ve come to realize, the most useful vehicle in the world is the one you have the keys to. In my case, that vehicle has almost always been a Ford Escort or a Mazda Miata—and I’ve rarely been disappointed.
