Hot Wheels for Track Days

They got dirty with brake dust pretty quickly at the track, but there’s no doubting how good these Diamond Racing Wheels look.

Painting weights is as simple as grabbing a can of the nearest white paint and masking off the wheel and tire.

If these were 15-inchers with tires in the original overall diameter, this setup could easily be Hellaflush.

We called up Diamond Racing Wheels to make a set of 13x8-inch wheels with an appropriate 5-inch backspace and 4x100mm bolt pattern. We also had been eying a set of 949 Racing valve stems that a good friend had given to us some time ago, so we also used those when we mounted the Toyo R888 225/45R13 tires.

The wheels weigh in at 14 pounds apiece. You can’t call it a superleggera, but the low cost of $80 each along with the durability of steel make us confident that it’s a bargain. Their wheels are made-to-order, so that price applies to any size you may want.

We didn’t like the look of those gray wheel weights on our pristine white wheels, so we painted them to match. Of course, we got them dirty pretty quickly at a track day at The FIRM.

Nice! Thanks for the info on sizing. I've been considering getting some Miata wheels from Diamond Racing Wheels.
