This weekend was the Martin Sports Car Club’s MiniPrix, their semiannual high-speed autocross. It was run at Gainesville Raceway, and the Civic was there. We tried some Nitto NT01 tires that were leftover from our most recent tire test, even though we were cautioned that they might not be the hot setup. A friend at the company wondered if we’d generate enough heat to get them up to optimal temperature.
Looking back, he may have been right, as the absolute grip wasn’t there. General consensus is that these tires are better on a track day or road race, where the tires have some time to get up to temperature. Still, we had fun, despite our mid-pack finish. We drove to the event on the Nittos, and despite some road noise they were fine on the highway.
From Gainesville, we headed to St. Petersburg for the IRL race weekend.
