We took a trip to our local junkyard and got a new piece for the intake of the Subaru. They charged us $3.99 for “Engine-Misc.” The piece isn’t a Helmholtz resonator (bottle shaped reservoir perpindicular to the path of the intake, before the throttle body), it’s more of an expansion chamber that’s placed in series with the air box.
We had originally removed this part from our car because it was cracked in the car’s previous accident. With the “new” piece on, the car accelerates cleanly from 800 rpm at full throttle and has noticeably better low-end torque around town. That should help pull us out of rutted turns on the RallyCross course.
