We got back from the Fort Meade RallyCross safe and sound. If you get a chance to every try it, please do. It’s a blast.
The Subaru finished 7th out of 16 cars. We found that the car was often between first and second gears and we think this might be due to a tire diameter issue. Our 205/60R15 R700s are quite tall and would often bottom out in the wheelwells (making an effective brake in the middle of a rut/turn!) The large diameter made it hard to keep it in second (no power) and we had our fastest times in first gear, where there was too much wheelspin and bouncing off the rev-limiter.
We went to the junkyard to day and found a few (3) 14” alloys from a Legacy and one steel one. We’re going to find the fourth alloy and mount up some 185/65R14 Kumho R700s to get a much better gear ratio for these tight courses.
More info on the event can be found on the Rally Rebels web site.
We’ll post some pics tomorrow.
