Here's the first look at the exterior, you can tell it's a Luxury edition because of the wheels and the front air intake grille.
Luxury package cars came equipped with leather seats and the woodgrain dash inserts. As you can see, it's in need of some cleaning and attention.
The front plastic pan was broken and both brake ducts were missing. Here you can also see some curb rash on the front spoiler.
There's also a slight bump on the rear sheetmetal. This will be fixed.
We started our work by replacing a very dirty air filter.
A before shot of the seat bolsters. We'll be cleaning, treating and redying the leather.
Fabric is not a good traction adder....the rear tires are worn right to the cords.
The fuel filter, like the air filter, also needed to be replaced.
This looks serious, but it's actually quite easy to fix. A bad valve cover gasket has coated the spark plugs in oil.. You can also see how the factory paint on the magnesium valve cover flakes off.
We recently purchased a 1996 M3 as a Grassroots Motorsports magazine project car. The M3 has 103,000 miles and had the luxury package, which included Luxury wheels, leather interior and woodgrain dash inserts.
The kicker is that we paid just $9500 for this BMW. The combination of worn shocks, bald tires and the need of a complete detailing lowered the price of this autobahn burner.
Here’s the first look at what we’ve got and what we’ll do with it.
