It's nice when a performance car can also help with those weekend chores.

No tow truck? No problem.

This weekend, in fact, it helped us out of two jams.

Sorry that this post isn’t about clearing doubles or tearing up the dirt, but it’s been a while since we have given our 2000 Subaru Impreza rallycrosser props for just being so practical. This weekend, in fact, it helped us out of two jams.

Jam #1: A friend needed to get his lawn tractor in for service but didn’t have a suitable vehicle. Enter our Subaru and a simple trailer. Problem solved. (While it’s hard to see in the photo, yes, the trailer does have a license plate.)

Jam #2: Our friend also needed help removing an old VW Beetle from storage. One problem: The Beetle’s rear brakes were frozen solid. The Subaru dragged the Beetle from its place of slumber, but, truth be told, we switched to something with a bit more displacement—and a torque converter—for the rest of the drag up the driveway when it became obvious that the Beetle’s brakes weren’t going to release.
