Our 350Z had rolled around on off-brand rubber long enough. It was time for some real performance tires.
A set of 18x10.5 TSW Nurburgrings holds a set of 275/35-18 BFGoodrich g-Force Rivals. We hope it's the right combo for STU domination.
The front fitment needed a thin spacer, but fender and wheel-well clearance seem good so far.
Nothing affects a car’s performance like the tires. They’re its only contact with the road.
For our Nissan 350Z, we went with BFGoodrich g-Force Rivals. They’re previous winners of a GRM comparison test and one of our favorite performance tires. SCCA Street Touring rules require a treadwear rating of 140 or above, so the 200-treadwear Rivals are a go. They’ll also be legal in 2015 when the treadwear spec is raised to 200.
The Street Touring Ultra class mandates a tire width of no more than 285mm for rear-wheel-drive cars, so the 275mm BFGs fit the bill nicely. BFGoodrich doesn’t offer a 285mm-wide Rival suitable for the Z, but the 275/35-18s we installed put as much tread on the ground as 285s from other manufacturers. In short, we don’t feel like we’re giving anything up in contact patch.
Holding our BFGs to the car is a set of some of our favorite wheels: TSW Nurburgrings. These 18x10.5-inch wheels with 27mm offset are specified by TSW as the rear fitment for the Z car, but we’re using them at all four corners. This required some 3mm spacers at the front, which will necessitate longer wheel studs. We just couldn’t resist putting the car on the ground to snap a few pictures, though.
