We’ll be experimenting with some serious aero hardware on our project Z06, but we also want to be able to run in competition classes that allow differing levels of aero add-ons. So we’re providing ourselves some options when it comes to aerodynamic bits.
For track time trial use, we’ll be running a large rear wing and a wide and long front splitter from RHR Performance. But for SCCA CAM-class autocrossing, we’ll need a flat-plane rear spoiler and a front air dam that doesn’t stick out past the bumper. For the front, we chose a simple lip spoiler from ACI that bolts on under the stock nose. It has a nice flat bottom, so it will also make for a nice fill panel to hang our RHR splitter from for track use.
In the rear, our big RHR wing mounts on beefy carbon fiber stanchions that bolt directly to the metal bumper and pass through the soft plastic bumper cover. These mounts will pull double-duty: holding the wing for track use, and holding a clear polycarbonate spoiler for autocross use. We built a cardboard template that we’ll send to Shields Racing Windshields for laser cutting out of high-strength, high-visibility polycarbonate.
Uh, what happened to A-Street spec? Too boring? Was very interested in at least a couple events worth of information about the car in AS trim. Seems like it never got a fair chance before modding it out of the class.
Is it a track car or an autocross car? Sometimes trying to do both is not the best idea and you end up with compromises on both fronts resulting in reduced competitiveness. If just a toy and don't care then have fun.
