Before we could raid the parts store for our 2006 Ford Mustang GT, we needed to consult the SCCA Club Spec Mustang rule book.

With those considerations in mind, we also researched our model before adding spares–for example, rear bearings–to our shelves as well. Want smooth execution for your project car? Plan and gather ahead of time, even if you don’t think you’ll need it right away.

We already intended to change tires and wheels, but SCCA dictates diameter and width (18x9.5-inch), offset (+35 or great, with spacer) and minimum weight (17 pounds).

What did we choose?

For wheels, the Konig Hypergrams in matte grey. We’re still working on our livery, so we figured grey goes with everything.

As far as tires are concerned, rules mandate a Goodyear F1 Supercar 3, size 275/40R18.

With wheels and tires now on order, we still await the installation of the lift in our new shop. Once that gets finished, we’ll give the Mustang a full spa and examination day.

The good news: It's just about finished. You know what that means? Our first Mustang workday is right around the corner.

As much as I like the look of the stock wheels, those Konig Hypergrams are going to look sweet on the car.

So I am curious to know what the current dollar total is for this car?

In reply to Tom1200 :

We’ll keep that updated once we start bolting on parts. Other than the car itself and rear brake pads*, we had to buy a key and fob for it.

* The rear pads were nearly metal-on-metal, so for now we just wanted to make things safe so we could drive it around. Real pads to come.

Ive been looking forward to this build.  These have been on my radar to replace my 128i since Spec Mustang was announced, so I'm curious to see the results.

I thought the same thing when looking at the different options.

A slightly heavy budget friendly wheel for this is the 07-09 GT500 wheel.  18 x 9.5 @ 24lbs a bit porky but tough.  Picked up mine with tires for $500, what I want is 18 x 10 Apex EC-7 in Bronze.
