We brought our MR2 out of hibernation so it could watch us change these brake pads.

For $30 per axle, these Power Stop pads actually perform very well.

All those hot laps at VIR left our Beetle’s brakes feeling a bit spongy, so before we hit the road for the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championshipshttp://www.scca.com/events/index.cfm?eid=5489, we slapped on a new net of pads. Since this is still a daily-driver, we went pretty mild, with a set of Power Stop ceramic pads bought off the shelf at RockAuto (we had a coupon). Still, they’re a fair bit nicer feeling than the OEM pads. They have a nice progressive bite, and should make a nice compromise for street durability and good feel on the autocross course. Not bad for less than $30 per end.

We love all VWs, whether water-cooled, air-cooled, gas- or diesel-powered. Subscribe to Grassroots Motorsports now.
