Where do you actually purchase the car from?
Oooooh, pretty.
First things first: some time in the classroom.
Then, a braking exercise.
After that, we spent time on a tight, autocross-sized course.
Next, it was time to spin.
We were blown away by the thoroughness of the delivery specialist.
He really did show us what every single button does.
Picking up a new car: something everyone likes to do that’s also no fun at all. After hours of negotiating, the last thing you want to do is take a taxi to the dealership, then wait for 2 hours next to a cheap coffee maker while some intern finds your keys and wipes as much dust off your car as his T-shirt can hold. The basic sentiment always seems to be “Thanks for the money, now scram.”
BMW buyers, though, have an alternative to the traditional delivery process. It’s called Performance Center Delivery, and it’s how we got our M235i. Basically, you pick up your car at the company’s performance center in South Carolina; get a full, hours-long tutorial on each and every feature; and spend time on track in a car just like yours. To top things off, you get a plant tour and can see how BMWs are made.
Oh, and it doesn’t cost any extra.
