New Shoes for Our Two

Update by Tom Suddard to the BMW M235i project car

Continental's ExtremeContact DW tire should give us a good blend of road manners and grip on track.

Notice the tape measure? While we were putting the wheels back on, we measured for some wider wheels and tires. We'll discuss those in a future update.

Our BMW M235i only had a few thousand miles on it, but this being GRM, we’d already worn out its first set of tires.

The hunt was on for a new dual-duty tire, one that could survive lots of miles and lots of abuse on track. Oh, and Florida’s rainy weather, too.

We think we’ve found it: The Continental ExtremeContact DW. If the name is any indication, it should give us plenty of grip.

What size did we order? For now, the stock size. We’re not ready to jam as much rubber as we can under the car… yet.

My experience with a set, on a '94 325is, has been excellent. 13,000 miles. One track day.

That car will chew those tires up.

I thought this would be about one of JG's MR2's.

I am curious to hear what kind of mileage others are getting out of these tires as well. These are in strong consideration for being my do-all auto x/dd tire (see my post in the 2015 auto x tire thread), but only if I can get at least 20k street miles and a full season of auto x events out of them.

In reply to Furious_E:

Mine are still good and will exceed 20,000 tread life easily.

+1 And the soft sidewall makes for some funny handling. Works great in the rain, just not a good track tire.

Bridgestone S04s, had really good luck with them on the street, no experience with track use though.
