The Camaro easily topped 155 mph on the long, banked straights of Daytona International Speedway.

Our project Chevy Camaro SS made its track debut on one of the biggest stages imaginable: the Rolex 24 course at Daytona International Speedway. Easily topping 155 and even 160 mph on the long, banked straights of Daytona, the Camaro impressed us with its poise and nimbleness—two words not usually associated with pony cars of this size and heft.

Despite a strong performance, we still feel the Camaro has quite narrow tires for its size. The 285-width Goodyears will come off and give way to massive 305-width Continental Force Contact track tires. They’ll be mounted in time for the Camaro’s second outing at Sebring International Raceway, which will mark two legendary tracks in its first two appearances.
