We paid $20,000 for our project Mk7 VW GTI Sport, intending to make it as fast or faster on track than more modern counterparts. Did we succeed?

We dive into the data to see how fast our upgraded Mk7 is on track against brand-new performance cars like the Honda Civic Type R and a Toyota GR Corolla–cars with starting prices close to double what we paid for our GTI.

We have an 2015 8V Audi A3 2.0 Quattro that is going to be retired from daily duty in a few years. It is essentially:

  • Mk7 GTI PP Engine
  • MK7 Golf R DSG + AWD Haldex (with taller gear ratio). No front diff*
  • Non-PP GTI standard brakes

Might be worth it to make it into a el cheapo dedicated HPDE beasty and leave my shiny new FL5 for daily duties.

Thanks for making me a nice recipe fellas :)
