Our GTI has seen lots of excitement: track days and tire tests, local autocrosses and One Lap of America.
Maybe a quiet event for once? We showed it this past weekend at a local cars and coffee–about 40 minutes away in downtown Sanford, Florida.
The day’s mission: chill with some friends and check out some cars. We saw lots of Miatas–no surprise, right?–but also an early, original Viper RT/10, an Iron Mask Nissan Skyline and a low-mileage 1979 Indy Pace Car Mustang that, oddly, had been painted black by the dealer.
One thing this day did point out: Our Golf GTI still makes an incredible dual-purpose car. It’s quick, comfortable and turns some heads.
Coming up next: an SCCA double-header at the FIRM with an autocross in the morning and a Track Sprint that afternoon.
And I do enjoy these events. I go with a friend and we use it as an opportunity to get the cars out of the garage, see some cool cars, and just chat while walking about.
Also, come join us (and the GTI) at the FIRM on May 18 for an SCCA autocross/Track Sprint.
I'm either stupid or in exactly the right place...I suppose two things can be true simultaneously...but as I was admiring the Viper, my mind went to "hmm, that old Ford van in the background could sure come in handy."🤓
And, for me, that’s part of the fun–a bit of everything. We saw Mustangs and Miatas, Ferraris and Fits. (See what I did there?)
Next time, I’ll get some photos of the van.
Nice pics; I love local informal-ish shows like that. You never know what may show up. Thanks for posting.

No problem and, yes, a fan of the laid-back nature as well. Come and go as you please, check out some cars, maybe make a new friend. Not all of the cars there were my thing, but plenty were.
