I have customized this bike quite a bit with my rebuild, which was aimed at addressing some of the shortcomings I saw with the bike as well as updating the look. The frame received damage repair, a modified swingarm pivot and rear suspension linkage mount, integrated soft luggage strap mounts, and a few other tweaks. The rear swingarm is from a 2012 CRF250R, utilizing the CRF brake with a machined DR350 hub and DR650 rear rotor. The kickstand is an aluminum KTM unit, and the footpegs are Pivot Pegz on custom lowered rubber-mounted brackets I built. The exhaust is a port-matched stock DR350 headpipe (revolted) matched to a custom fabbed midpipe, and a 0-mile takeoff KTM EXC-350 muffler. I upgraded the fork with an RMZ250 upside-down unit that I rebuilt, and installed with a custom stem/triple tree to retain stock geometry. Front caliper/rotor is RMZ with DR master. New custom stainless braided lines and custom clutch and throttle cables to accommodate the bar risers for my 6’ 2” height. I machined my own risers from aluminum stock.
I integrated front turn signals into new triple-clamp-mounted handguards, and made them into flashback running lights. I added an adjustable-height windshield/fairing setup, which also includes a new dashboard and massive lighting upgrade. I also added fused USB charge port, heated grips, 2x fused accessory power for future upgrades (GPS?) and a voltmeter and hidden killswitch while I was in a wiring mood. The wiring harness got a going-through and re-looming. A mildly reworked and powdercoated (to match the frame) luggage rack was installed. I adapted RM rear fender and RMZ supermoto front fender to update the look, and had a seat custom built for long distance comfort for my height. A new digital dash was wired in and calibrated to display critical info. A new oversize desert tank ensures amazing range.
I probably put waaay too much money and effort into this little bike, but I wanted the ultimate flyweight air-cooled ADV bike, and am proud of what I’ve built.
