At a car show, seeing its steering wheeel stowed on the side of the car, a bystander asked the following question: bystander pointing, “What does that do ?” I “it steers the car.” bystander “How does it work?” I “I hold the edge of it and push or pull depending on where I want to go.” bystander….long silence. I, placing the wheel onto its shaft”Of course it works much better up here.” bystander walks away feeling stupid.
this actually happened in 2015. For gender sensitivity and non discrimination, I did not identify the sex of the bystander.
