more pics, it looks like fun!
a Datsun 1200 engine & drivetrain. VW front axle a 109 tube space frame in a plastic body both of my design and construction. weight 1050 lbs 4 bar rear suspension (made from tie rods) with panhard rod & home made coil over shocks .Triumph motorcycle muffler, garden tractor battery for starting. And it is street legal.
It is fun. Much like a motorcycle. I used a type 3 vw front axle and making the front axle myself from tubes and heim joints would save 150 lbs. But the type 3 axle was easy. This was about how one had to make one of these cars in the 80's. Datsun engine [~75 hp] Now days I'd use a Yamaha FZ1 motorcycle engine [130 hp] and transmission mounted in the rear & move the driver forward. As light as it is, acceleration is brisk. With the yamaha it would be fast but faster yet would be a Mazda rotary engine. It is street legal.
It is simple by design. That made it easier to do. I read the motor vehicle code and built it to comply with that. A rookie cop saw it, turned on his blue lights and proceeded to look in his code book to figure out what to write on the ticket. He paged back and forth in the code book, then closed it, said nothing and drove off shaking his head.
