I love supermotos. I love Swedish bikes. I love lightweight, highly-tuned singles. I’m struggling to sell my Aprilia SXV550, despite realizing it isn’t the bike for me. Part of the struggle is not wanting to give up the race-supermoto-for-the-street riding experience. This Husaberg seems like the only worthy/better replacement. It is quite a bit lighter, sharper, snappier, and harder than my Husky 701, but should be a bit more user friendly than the Aprilia (better chassis, a touch lighter, wide-ish ratio six-speed, marginally better service intervals, and maybe marginally better parts support.) I will miss the Aprilia’s epic exhaust note and jaw-dropping styling, but I won’t miss pushing it home every third ride! :) The FS570 is a very interesting bike from a technical and historical point of view. Husaberg was born out of the ashes of the sale of Husqvarna to Cagiva, and started as essentially continuations of Husqvarna models, still made in Sweden. My bike is from the era of KTM ownership, so much of the chassis and ancillaries are shared with KTM of the same era, but the powerplant is bespoke. The cylinder is canted forward with transmission stacked underneath the crank to but the center of rotating mass right at the CoG and for some of the best mass-centralization ever seen. Fuel is carried low and center for the same reasons. The engine is counterbalanced for smoothness, and the brakes and suspension are top-shelf from the era just before electronic rider aids. I found a local 2011 (the one year for factory street legal, which is imperative in my state which has no process for registering converted off-road bikes) with 31 hours on it from new!!! It needs a few things here and there, but the handling and response is sublime! I love the way it tips into the corner, I love the bark from the thumper single, and I love the nearly-instantaneous response when blipping the throttle for a downshift, followed by just a little pop and crackle on the overrun!
