My 1998 C5 has been mostly a daily driver since I bought it in 2016, after searching for over 5 years for a C5 Convertible that I liked after researching the vehicles I had looked at. It was a Canadian exported vehicle brand new, and I got it in an auction as soon as it returned to the U.S. It was an exercise in getting the gauges memorized because of being metric, but a bonus on the speedometer as it could switch from metric to U.S. readings and it shows up to 300 MPH. I have since started modifying the car for road track racing, as in suspension, cooling, transmission, (which is a 4L60E that has been completely built for performance), a spare transmission that has been rebuilt also, for just in case, long tube headers with the sensors to keep it street legal, a modified air delivery set up, Wilwood brakes, waiting to be put on, along with tuning it on a dyno for best performance, which right now is 361HP at the rear wheels and several other sundry things. The roll cage / bar setup has been hard to find someone that will do it and keep it SCCA legal while still allowing me to put the top up, if it is needed and hopefully will be done by the start of 2023. My intentions are to run it in Solo in the ST class and also doing autocross racing. I have all the driver safety items and equipment. So, when the car is ready I will be taking it to a track near me and with a Pro along, learn the idiosyncrasy’s of the car at speed. It’s been an expensive hobby so far, but it will be worth it to me.
