1973 Datsun 240Z

16

I have been an Autocross fanatic for several years. It all started with a Datsun 510. After 10 years of playing and modifying this ride I moved up to a 240Z. With a few years of “tweaking”, I decided to compete in the Ontario Regional championship were I won the class out right and set FTD at every event I ran in. Wanting more, I moved to a 90 300ZXTT. The chassis was great and the ~ 430hp made it fun at any event, but I missed the ability to properly throttle steer. So once agin I went back to a 240Z but this time one with a “big heart”. So more cubic in would be required. In my search for a cost effective LS1 engine I found a Nissan V8 that has a wrecking yard cost of only $800.00, the Infiniti Q45 engine (VH45DE). This would keep the Nissan theme alive while offering plenty of power. An all aluminum DOHC 4.5 lt V8 with variable cam timing now puts out a conservative ~350hp with lots of potential for later mods. Plans are to run it in SOLO 1&2 with future goals of the UTCC and perhaps to go back and do the 1 Lap of America with it. Beautiful car. I love that you kept it all Nissan. I've been wanting to do a similar engine swap for years... other projects keep getting in the way.
