As an Engineering student at VA Tech, I was on the Formula SAE team and we took first place in 1991, and 3rd in 1992 with the same car. Ever since then I have wanted to get back into formula cars. During a local SCCA meeting, a member from Charlotte, NC came down to talk about his F500 car and his ongoing conversion to a motorcycle engine. I was hooked and started looking for an F500 car that would fit my 6‘1” height and 10-1/2 wide shoe size. Not a problem for many cars in other classes, but F500s are typically a tight fit on larger drivers. The car I bought will fit a 6‘3” driver with size 13 shoes, so I fit w/o problem. What I like most about F500 is the versatility - autocross, road racing, fits the garage with extra room and can be towed on an open trailer behind our family’s 1995 Honda Accord V6. I recently added a removable winch to the trailer using a vertically mounted hitch receiver welded on the trailer’s tongue. The winch is bolted to a ball hitch w/o the ball. It’s quick and easy to use the winch when needed.
