Those euro-capris are SO hard to find. Nice example!
1973 Mercury (Ford) Capri. 2.8 Liter V6. Offy Intake with Hollley 4 bbl. carb. & headers. American Racing Formula Libre wheels with Sumitomo 205/60/13 tires. I have owned this one since 2000, and have painstakingly restored it to its present state. Body and paint was done by Body and Soul Restorations in Adrian, Mi. Advertised as the “Sexy European”; the Capri was originally designed by Ford of Europe as a type of European Mustang and was built from 1969-74 in both England and Germany. Nearly 375,000 were sold in the US during those years. The Capri was named by Ford as one of its top 25 “Heart & Soul” vehicles of all time in honor of the companies 100th anniversary in 2003. Thanks to the Capri Club of North America and parts supplier Team Blitz..
Thanks for the nice comments. Yes, they are American Racing Formula Libre wheels (13")
I love 73 Capri's, especially in brown! My older sister's boyfriend had one when new and I have always wanted one.
Thanks Woody, The color is called Copper and it is kind of similar to the color Nissan uses on newer Murano's and 350Z. Check out the Capri Club site which can be found in the link in "View more photos of this car"
I love Capris, and I'm not talking about the trousers. . . Nice resto work, as rare as these are I'm sure it was a lot of BST!
Nice looking car! I had a '71 as my first car. They were fairly rare then and much more so now. Great job on the restoration.
I was at that car show. Gilmore right? I think I still have a picture of your car somewhere.
Yes, that is Gilmore. I have gone the last 2 years to the Mad Dogs & Englishmen show. One of my favorite shows of the year and planning to go again in 2011. I had the only Capri, so that had to be me that you saw,
My parents had a silver 1973 Capri, and it's still one of my favorite cars. Yours is beautiful.
Truly one of the few cars that deserve "Classic" status from that era! Bravo!
So, I'm starting to think about finding an early Capri to restore/restomod in a few years when I retire. Rodan's thread (https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/mk1-ford-capri-recapturing-the-dreams-of-my-youth/183641/page1/) is/isn't helping here. My first car was a '74 V6 Capri I bought in 1983 at 16 years old. I rolled that at an early version of an HPDE at Sears Point with the California Capri Club (the organizers of which created NASA), bought a '73 with a sick 2.0, and swapped the recently rebuilt 2.8 into the '73. That was my daily driver in college, and I brought it with me with I moved to Michigan in 1991. I also raced a '72 2600 in SCCA ITA for a few years in the '90s. Poking around online for what's for sale now, and showing my son the differences between '72, '73, and '74 bumpers, and I stumbled across this thread. The original post is about my old car! The 2.8 in a '73 (would have been a 2.6), the Holly carb, the black ARE wheels, the year 2000 acquisition, the MI restoration shop; all that lines up. And he brought the car out to an SCCA race at Michigan International Speedway after the restoration when I was racing there, so I got to see it in way nicer condition than it ever was in while I owned it. This thread was from 5 years before I joined the GRM forums, so I've missed it this whole time. Nothing to see here. I'm just happy to have found this thread after all these years. And I'm really digging Rodan's and TheRealPinto's Capri threads.
