Very nice, aren't those the lightest of the classic 900s?
This is a rare 2-door notchback (only ~2k imported to the US, and only in ‘85-‘86) I picked up for $400. I converted it to a Turbo, with a B212 bottom end; ‘95 B234 head customized to fit the earlier block; Volvo Turbo Jetronic ECU & associated fuel bits; little Mitsu TE05 turbo; 4-speed w/Quaife from the good people at Scanwest Autosport; DIY adjustable suspension made from roundy-round parts; ‘88+ axles; and some other stuff. Car is still rough — its restoration paused for several years now — but fun to drive, nonetheless.
Thanks -- yes, they are the lightest c900*. They're also stiffer than a hatchback (and don't have the weight of the hatch up high -- if memory serves, a full hatch door w/glass is about 60#). *For the European market only, Saab grafted the 900 notchback rear to the 99 front and sold it as a Saab 90. Presumably, it's lighter. I don't particularly care for the look, though: the softer lines of the 99 front don't mix well with the more angular rear. I've wanted to scratch the C900 itch again for a while now. You're not helping me talk myself out of it.
Any updates on the notchback? I finally got my '90 back on the road and have really been enjoying it lately.
I've been following your Saab collection -- you have (had) some nice ones! (Incidentally, nice photos, too.) I am working on putting narrower springs up front so I can run wider rims without rubbing, and buy used springs from places like honda-tech. I'm running into troubles with tire selection, though: I want to use 15s but 205/50 is tough on the 4-speed gearing. So 205/50-16 is common and stock diam. but finding a 4x108 rim for not a lot of $$ has been a challenge. I added an APC, too, but haven't hooked it all up because I'm looking for a T5 donor and have returned to using a non-turbo Saab ECU. If you know squaab99 and GreggC from other forums, they live near me and I hope to bribe them with beer to get some help when the time comes...
