Sep 30, 2009 update on em99sport's 2004 Subaru WRX wagon

Rallycross prep and more

I decided to purchase an STi for autocross/HPDEs, so the wagon is getting dedicated to daily driving and rallycross. Given the change, some off-road oriented mods were in order.

I picked up a set of used 15x6.5 Raceline RL-7s with Kumho R700 rally tires in an attempt to gain some traction in the dirt. The gold paint looks great against the silver, and the 65 series sidewall lends a meaty appearance to the car. The wheels will clear the OEM 4-pot brake calipers used on the ‘06/‘07 WRX and older JDM STi models, so there’s plenty of upgrade room in the stopping department.

While getting muddy is fun, I finally got around to scoring a set of Rally Armor urethane mud flaps to offer some protection to the car’s finish. A sweet bonus is the muscular look they lend the car.

Finally, thanks to a nail in one of my Goodyears, I pulled the trigger on a sticky set of tires for daily driving. Having heard nothing but good things about the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs, I went with those in stock size for the OE wheels.

Pics of everything will follow once I get back to the states in a few weeks.
