Found a set of OE NB Wheels (the new Street Category in SCCA now allows +/- 1” wheel diameter, I wanted to move up to 15”s to gain tire choices) and got a set of “magic” Toyo Proxes R1R 195/50R15s shaved and mounted up ready to go. Other than that, the car is already pretty well set up.
First two event were regionals with Atlanta SCCA, where I finished 2nd of 10 and 3rd of 8 (by an extremely small margin). A friend flew down to Atlanta last weekend and we did the Dixie Tour. He was rusty, and I’m not very good, so we got pantsed the first day despite the new tires. We each did a little better on day two. Johnny was the fastest Miata on Day Two, and second fastest overall, ultimately finishing 4th in the trophies.
We both agree the car is pretty hilariously fun and easy to drive. Hopefully, I can improve a little bit with familiarity with the Toyos. They like a little more steering input than I’m used to providing.
