1986 Volkswagen Jetta GLi

1986 Jetta GLi prepared for the Challenge. As the car sits, we spent around $1900 with the NOS. A few more parts to sell and install the 2 liter ABA, turbo…. The first autox with the coilovers proved fruitless as the car was only running on 3 cylinders. You can still see the fire damage by the rear wheel from Challenge preparation in $2008. We made it for $2009. ——-Drivetrain——- - Stock motor with AC/PS removed - Solid motor mounts - TT exhaust from the junkyard w/ Cat removed - K&N Filter - Stock CIS-E fuel injection - Home brew catch can - Close ratio trans with Peloquin 80% shim kit - Missing Linkz shift kit with all new bushings ——-Brakes——- - Braided hoses - Metal Master Pads ——-Suspension——- - Bilstein Sport struts/shocks - Ebay coilovers, 450/572# springs - Poly/TT control arm bushings - Ebay strut bar - Home brew shock tower bar - EuroSport Camber plates - Poly rear shock bushings - EuroSport -1degree rear shims ——-Interior/Exterior——- - Gutted interior/trunk - Gti front seats - Heat removed - Euro front bumper/ Rear bumper lightened - 14” VW Snowflakes with old Hoosiers

Vote up for another A2! Great cars, aren't they? You can do almost anything with them.

They're sort of an addiction. I have too many spare parts to switch to another car.

Looks great so far. Are you going w/ the stock head and ABA shortblock, or the full ABA swap?

Also, have you thought at all about running the 2L 16V motor ( B3 passat motor that uses cis-e )? I'm wondering which intake could use for it.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with the ABA. I was thinking of running it as is with MegaSquirt and eventually putting the turbo I have on it. I also have another 8V head that needs a valve job that I was going to do some port work/CC on the maybe use the ABA shortblock. I also considered finding the 2L 16V block to keep me legal in EP but not sure that means THAT much to me. Right now we're dealing with the CIS-E fuel injection stumbling under load. I picked up a cam for cheap and thought I had the stumble worked out but it's still there. Revs fine under a medium foot all the way to redline. My buddy is supposed to lend a hand this weekend and thinks he knows what the trouble is. We'll see. As for the 16V, we have talked about it but I like the simplicity of the 8V. If a deal on a 16V motor turned up I would buy it just to have it

Thanks for the info. As far as the stumbling, do you have another fuel dist. to try out? Maybe the "flap" isn't moving as smoothly as it should be? Just a thought. Also, I just recently got motivated enough to start working on my car again. Hopefully, I can finish removing the engine so I can start prepping for the new engine( I'm doing the RD or JH head w/ the aba shortblock unless my mind changes again.... ). Good luck w/ the car and thanks again for the encouragement and info.

Stripped down 2 litre motor to a short block and have the head on the bench getting new valve stem seals. Need to get a few seals and maybe a new pressure plate but otherwise the two pieces should be mated soon.
