1986 Merkur XR4Ti

35

The car is an 86 XR4Ti. I’ve had it since 1990. It’s been modified ever since. Recent mods include a Boss block (bored/stroked to a 331) with AFR 195 heads, custom grind cam, ProSystems 750 carb on a Edelbrock Air Gap manifold. Trans is a TKO 600RR. Rear end is a David Godfrey 8.8 IRS with 3.55 gears. Brakes are 6 pot Wilwoods up front and 4 pots out back. Although it’s street legal, I use it primarily for HPDE events.

Thanks! I switched to a dual in/out Magnaflow last year and really like the sound. Plus, it packages in real nice.

Nice ride--voted up! How tight a fit is the 331?

Thanks! 331 fits pretty tight front to back, but side to side is a breeze. I run equal length BBK shorty headers (89-93 Mustang) and it takes less than 20 minutes to remove them. I also just switched to a TKO600RR.

Have you taken the Merk to the dragstrip? Wondering what kind of ET it would run. Thanks.

I ran it against a G-Tech Pro and got a 12.7 at a 117 mph once. Not sure how it would compare at the track.
