The rear galley plug (commonly known as the "barbell" or "dog-bone") is an important part of the oil system in LS engines.
The stock plastic part is perfectly fine, but a machined plug—like the one we got from Improved Racing—is a simple, inexpensive upgrade to ensure the reliability of your engine.

I like informative info like this. I don't like Jalopnik "clickbait" headlines :(

The headlines are what they are because they work.
Improved Racing makes some good stuff. I always loved checking them out at the Mitty.

Me, before seeing preview image: "Hmm, I wonder if it's about the barbell."
I have an Improved Racing oil pan baffle in my Camaro. Good stuff.

Fix your LS oil system with this one weird trick?

You know what they say about opinions right? Correct. That's all it was, David didn't have to go change it.

The one they don't want you to know? You won't believe what happened next!

Are you getting boned in the back by your LS?

I machined my own barbell for the boosted LQ4 in my '61 C10. 5/8" aluminum bar works great.
I did not put an o-ring on the leading end of the barbell, as I wasn't convinced the o-ring wouldn't get sliced moving past the holes in the oil gallery, take a chunk out of the o-ring, and then have o-ring floating lord knows where.
The factory plastic jobbie is pretty sloppy.

Now I'm curious about what the original headline was.
