Tech inspector found a failing tie-rod end for me once. I had not even noticed it, and the car was pretty new. Ford covered it under warranty.

Piece of plywood that sits on the lip of the k frame and is held in through a tab with a bolt. Sticks out the max 6 inches, and is supported with drop ceiling cable and eye bolts. Absolutely nothing special at all!
