With registration for our $2000 challenge presented by CRC Industries now open, we think it's a great time to highlight some previous entrants.
Examples of this car were rare back in the day and are even more scarce today. What exactly is it? A Chevy Cavalier fitted with the optional Z24 performance package: 2.8-liter V6 engine, four-speed manual transmission, stiffer suspension and the obligatory blacked-out trim. The Z24 debuted for the 1986 model year, delivering performance that was par for the time: 16-second runs down the drag strip and 8.5-second sprints to 60.
John Powell of Brodhead, Wisconsin, bought this one new back in 1987 and put it into storage in 1993. He broke it free for our $2000 Challenge a decade later and assigned it a fair market value of $1200. Fresh BFGoodrich tires, Intrax lowering springs and a K&N air filter were part of the R&R process. It finished 44th out of the 67 entries.

I dig the looks! I honestly don't think I've ever seen one of these, not even a picture of one, until now.
You guys clearly never visited j-body. org back in the day.... man those guys thought they had the best Z car Chevy ever made. 1LE Z28s are for losers.

Oh no, I dabbled. Never owned a J, but their forum was the stuff of legends.

Fogger Jr. is probably a moderator over there.
They weren't a bad budget warmed over car for the time. That isn't saying much. I will say they would run poorly forever with very little maintenance.
I'm always looking for an early z24 hatch. Not that looking helps! They're WAY harder to find than the 86-88 Cadillac Cimarrons i also look for.
And yeah, J-body.org was interesting.
