Vorshlag Motorsports now has enough room to build race cars, run a fleet of CNC machines, and fabricate just about anything. Back in 2011, however, the company had just moved into its first commercial space–and the year before that, it brought this V8-powered BMW 325e to our $2000 Challenge.

Vorshlag started swapping V8 engines into BMWs in 2002, with this one running a now-popular setup: a 5.3-liter Chevy truck engine backed by a Camaro T5 gearbox. Before cutting steel for the flares, the team first mocked them up in cardboard.

Make your own low-buck memories at the Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge Presented by Tire Rack, held March 29-30, 2025.

The Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge is Presented by Tire Rack, in Association with HPX Show, A&A ManufacturingBendPakCRC Industries and Miller Electric.
