Almost works??? Really???
If the Miata is the spiritual successor of classic British Roadsters, then what’s stopping you from putting a bit of old-school DNA back into that Mazda?
As it turns out, nothing is stopping at least one of our endearing readers–forum member nocones–who put TR3-style doors on an NB-chassis Miata.
How and why did this happen? In an effort to prove that the idea was no good, nocones rendered the design, but quickly realized that the idea wasn’t so bad after all:
Have you ever had an idea that got into your head that you just had to try just to see? I got this idea of making half doors on a Miata like classic British roadsters have. So I tried to kill the idea the easy way. I did a rendering and it… Unfortunately looked ok. The NB Miata has enough hump in the front fenders that the TR3/XK120 Esq door shape looks like it almost works.
The next step? Massaging the front end to give it a matching retro feel.

Cars should be fun and this has been a nice just for fun coming down from the rush and stress of getting the LMP360 ready for the challenge. I am very interested to find out if the final mockup actually looks good or not. Its okay if it doesn't, it's been $20 worth of supplies and primer so far.
I appreciate the feedback people have given in the thread as the front gets made.
