Why drive your track car to the event instead of trailering it in? For driver Carl Roush and his 2021 Toyota Supra, it’s to prove a point: “The whole purpose of this car is to show that it's possible to compete in a car that actually gets to see the road and be loved how a car should be.”
Roush also points out that one of his Supra’s greatest strengths is its adaptability, whether it’s the balance, the grip or the power potential.
While power output figures weren’t noted on the entry form, we do know that the Supra–good for a likely-underrated-from-the-factory 382 horsepower–is fitted with a Precision 6870 turbocharger, a cooling package from CSF and a port injection kit.
In addition to adjustable springs from HKS, Roush threw the SPL catalog at the Supra’s suspension.
The Supra’s stock brake calipers have been retained, though now fitted with CounterSpace Garage Spec brake pads. Brake fluid has also been upgraded to a fluid from Endless.
Roush plans to switch to Toyo Proxes R88R tires, though the Supra’s Driveway Labs SS1-RR wheels are currently fitted with Falken RT615k+ tires.
The Supra has also received some aero improvements from Driveway Labs, as well as an Eventuri headlight air duct and “some aftermarket hood that my wife picked out.”
All in all, we’ll see just how adaptable Carl Roush’s Supra is at the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports, our annual search for the fastest track machine on four wheels.
The Ultimate Track Car Challenge, in which the rules simply require that both car and driver pass a safety inspection, takes place October 26-27 at Kentucky’s NCM Motorsport Park alongside the Tire Rack SCCA Time Trials Nationals Powered by Hagerty.
