A simple track car recipe that continues to yield spectacular results? Buy an already-potent V8-powered American car, then add a little bit more of everything: More power, more grip, more downforce.
Such is the case for driver Tim Fleury and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS he’s entered into our annual search for the fastest track car, the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge presented by Grassroots Motorsports.
While the Camaro’s LT1 V8 is rated at 455 horsepower from the factory, Fleury has taken that performance a few steps forward–to the tune of 600 horsepower.
Making all that power possible is a Holley Hi-Ram intake, GPI track attack camshaft, GPI ported and milled heads plus a custom exhaust made with J-pipes and mufflers from Vibrant.
Handling has been improved thanks to Fortune Auto coil-overs, SPL Parts spherical bushings and arms as well as solid subframe bushings and engine mounts. A custom front splitter and a rear wing from Nine Lives Racing also assist in keeping the Camaro planted to the track.
19x10.5-inch wheels allow for wider and stickier tires, with a roll bar, bucket seat and harness tying it all together.
Will this tried-and-trued formula be enough to secure the title of Ultimate Track Car?
