In 2011, a 1999 Mazda Miata rocketed across the Bonneville Salt Flats at a record-setting 165.296 mph–and now, it could be yours.
The Miata, better known as “Going 2160,” is going up for auction on Bring a Trailer for charity.
All of the proceeds–including the buyer’s fee–is going to The Piston Foundation scholarship program, which aims to help those looking to start a career in the collector car industry.
Although the Miata has since been retooled to compete in SCCA’s Spec Miata, the Mazda is also accompanied by just about everything you’d need to compete at Bonneville:
The buyer will also receive the Bonneville engine, the aerodynamic wheel covers and other components used to set the “rookie” record. The Bonneville engine received fresh bearings, rings and gaskets in preparation for sale.
The record-setting Miata will also be part of festivities at the upcoming MiataCon, October 27-28, at Lime Rock Park.
