This morning Toyota revealed two new GR models–GR Corolla Morizo and GR86 Special Edition–along with a new series for the GR86, the GR Cup Series.
The GR Corolla Morizo bumps power, cuts weight and improves handling over the rest of the GR Corolla line. This new model boasts 300 horsepower with torque increased to 295 lb.-ft.; the other GR Corolla models make do with 273 lb.-ft. of torque.
Engineers also slashed about a hundred pounds of weight: 3186 pounds compared to 3292 pounds for the GR Corolla Circuit Edition.
The GR Corolla Morizo also rides on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires mounted on 18-inch forged aluminum wheels. The model also features increased rigidity plus a specially tuned suspension that provides, as Toyota says, a “precision driving feel fit for racing.” Toyota will only produce 200 numbered units for 2023.
The GR86 Special Edition builds on the GR86 Premium model. Solar Shift Orange comes exclusive to the Special Edition. Other features unique to the model include a black C-pillar graphic, rear duckbill spoiler, forged matte 18-inch alloy wheels and GR cat-back exhaust with black chrome tips. Toyota will limit production to 860 units.
The last bit of big news: A new, single-make series debuts in 2023–the GR Cup for the GR86. The series will be sanctioned by SRO America, while TRD will build the specially equipped GR Cup cars in its new facility in Mooresville, North Carolina.
TRD will outfit each GR86 with Bosch engine management, custom Borla exhaust, SADEV six-speed sequential transmission, Alcon brakes, JRI adjustable shocks, OMP safety equipment, roll cage, carbon fiber rear wing, 22-gallon fuel cell, TGRNA designed MacPherson struts, Stratasys custom bodywork, a TGRNA designed splitter and more.
The GR Cup looks to provide, as Toyota says, “affordable competition” in 14 events across seven circuits in the U.S. For its initial season, the series offers one million dollars in total purse and prizes. Schedule and pricing on vehicles to be announced this summer. And, of course, we hope to drive all of these cars very soon.
I'm happy to hear of Toyota commitments to sport but I morn the move away from yellow, orange, red on white.

The special edition anniversary ND in that orange was great as well. Toyota is really targeting the MX-5 with the 86
Also, the apocalypse must be coming, as Toyota has managed to create a lust worthy Corolla.
