Driver Feras Qartoumy didn’t intend to keep this C6 Corvette for long. Then, he found out its speed potential. How fast, exactly? Nearly 10 seconds faster than a NASCAR Cup car at the Circuit of the Americas, with a lap time of 2:03.850.

The time earned him the top spot in the first round of the inaugural NATA Championship presented by Grassroots Motorsports, the Super Lap Battle event of Global Time Attack.

Qartoumy, a former off-road car fabricator and chassis builder, wanted to build a tube-framed car. He picked up this Corvette to feed his need for speed in the interim. Then, it snowballed from there.

The only thing that remains factory to the car is whatever remnants of the chassis, the suspension, torque tube and diff–besides that, everything’s been changed,” says Feras. “It has a 427 Late Model Engines-built 2000 horsepower package. We run it anywhere from 800 horsepower, at its lowest boost setting, to 1300. I’ve never ran it at 1300, I’ve only ran it at 1100. It’s a twin-turbo setup, with twin Garrett G35-900s.

On the transmission side of it, it has a 1:1, six-gear sequential. The theory behind that was to improve acceleration everywhere and that would equate to a faster lap time versus let’s go for the fastest miles per hour. The car gears out at 185 mph on almost any straightaway I’ve been on.

The car has a Bosch Motorsports ABS combined with a Pro-System Alcon brake kit that is unique to the car. It has 380mm front rotors, with six-piston front calipers, and four-piston rear calipers, with 355mm rear rotors. That is combined with a PMU brake pad used for NASCAR. The car is able to brake up to 3 Gs.

Verus Engineering scanned the car and came up with the aero package [and] was able to produce up to 6000 pounds of downforce.

The body on the car is a carbon-Kevlar body from HGK. Now the car weighs 2640 pounds. A car that’s super light, makes a lot of power and a lot of downforce equates to a really fast car.”

It sounds like a lot to handle, but Feras says the car’s more of a pleasure to drive than you might think.

The Corvette is such a neutral, well-balanced platform,” Feras says. “Some could be intimidated by it, but any well-rounded driver could get into the driver’s seat and in a couple of laps be very comfortable.”

Want to see the car in-person? Feras Qartoumy says he intends to bring it to round 2 of the NATA Championship.

What exactly is NATA? The North American Time Attack Council Championship presented by Grassroots Motorsports simplifies time trials by presenting a format that lets drivers easily collect points in participating events across Global Time Attack, Gridlife and SCCA Time Trials.

The first round happened in March, during Global Time Attack’s Super Lap Battle at the Circuit of the Americas.

The next round takes place on June 2-4 during a Gridlife Midwest event held at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan.

Power is easy, but expensive, but 6000lb's of downforce dear god. Just how strong are the neck muscles of the driver.

Good question. Michelin racing tires, with S7 and S8 compounds.
