That's a good starting point for resto-mod 914 with an engine swap. They said there's no problem with the Hell-Hole and didn't post a picture of it...

That's the rat hole these FBM links run me down. There goes an hour of productivity...

Good platform. Not the prettiest Porsche ever made, but good handling and can handle a flat six :) I am loving the fact that it doesn't look rusted out and can be saved. Actually, since I am not a purist by any stretch of the imagination, a V8 swap is what I would think would be cool---but that's just me.

Yeah, looks like there are some good bones here. As it’s “just” a 1.7L car, do you use this chassis as a starting point for something not concours correct?

A guy in our local SCCA chapter did a Z28 302 swap in one. He raved about the balance.
Needs some 916 flares, wide Fuchs and more cylinders
A turbo Subaru swap would be lighter and would handle better.

Get one of those newer 2200cc VW big bore motors; I think they make soemthing like 150hp in street trim.

Yes, I have heard nothing but good things about the near-perfect balance of a 914 with just about any engine swap. The platform is good/excellent and I kick myself for not buying one in a perfect opportunity in 1992 when I had the chance. In the 1980s I had a GF whose older brother had one and she would take it out when he was out of town. She would stupidly allow me to drive it. I was very impressed with the feel and balance of the car which was way better than my beat 200SX at the time. Datsuns and Porsches--the two demanding mistresses of my life.
