Your Projects: Cramming a Semi-Truck Engine Into a Motorhome

Although potentially complicated, an engine swap can be a great way to get more power into your car. But what about a project involving something bigger—much bigger—like a motorhome?

Thankfully, forum user bearmtnmartin is finding that out so we don’t have to. The project in question: Replace the original diesel V8–only “210 smoky, wheezy horsepower” and around 450 lb.-ft. of torque–with a Cummins turbodiesel good for 425 horsepower and 1550 lb.-ft. of torque out a semi-truck.

So far, the semi-truck has been stripped down and its massive diesel straight-six removed, ready to be crammed into the limited space found in the motorhome.

To find out if the engine fits, and to see what life with a semi-truck-powered motorhome is like, follow along with the build thread over on the Builds and Project Cars Forum.

This stuff takes some next level lifting solutions. Last time I complain about my engines and transmissions!

Maybe I'm out to lunch but I think the only way this will work is if it's just the semi in engine in motorhome she'll cause  it would need one ridiculous lift to fit in my opinion. The semi engine has gotta be far taller then the v8.

Not sure this is a headline worthy project! And one of the reasons for the swap is to reduce the coal....
