Cobra Automotive recommended that we go with the Roltek shifter mechanism, so we did. But we still needed a few things to finish off the install.

[Sourcing a real road race transmission | Project vintage race Mustang]

As usual, Summit seemingly stocks just about everything needed to build a race car.

We ordered a Hurst Competition Plus Flat Shifter Stick (part No. 5386836) and matching Hurst Classic Shift Knob–in white.

To seal the inside of the car from the outside of the car, we ordered a 12-inch Nomex shift boot from Racequip. Retail price is $69.95–cheap insurance, we figured.

The boot comes with a metal mounting brace. Since the Mustang’s transmission tunnel falls off a bit, we simply welded in a little bracket for the brace.

For less than a couple of hundred dollars, we had our shifting solved.
