Racing is hard on fluids, so we needed to choose some specialized products for our Mustang race car.

For the engine, we turned to Red Line’s 40WT Race Oil. What makes a race oil so special? It trades detergents for increased wear protection.

A race oil is designed for high rpm use and does not have some of the additives that are common in oils designed for street use. On the plus side, a true race oil can make more power while surviving the rigors of competition. On the downside, as Red Line cautions, this product requires more frequent oil changes.

In the gearbox, we followed our transmission builder’s advice and ordered Red Line 75W90 gear oil.

Our rear end manufacturer, Spraker Racing, said to not fill it with a synthetic product so we picked up some petroleum-based 75-90W gear oil.
