We’re not wasting any time trying out the new oil system and fresh rod bearings we fitted into our BMW 435i project. We’re not even going to bother taking it off the trailer after its trip home from BimmerWorld.

[Do we have an engine oiling problem with our BMW 435i?]

Instead, it’s getting wiped down and sent right to the track.

The track, in this case, is Daytona International Speedway, a motorports facility of some renown that also happens to be right across the street from our favorite Chinese buffet, and is, on this lovely Florida Thursday, hosting a daytime edition of the SCCA’s Track Night in America program.

TNiA is a low-cost, low-stress way for drivers to experience some of America’s destination tracks with their friends in a chill, non-competitive environment.

As the name implies, TNiA events are usually held in the early evening throughout the hot summer months, but this special Thursday at Daytona will take place during daylight hours, letting drivers experience the high banks before the typical Florida afternoon showers roll in.

We’ll check in to this thread between sessions and let you know how the BMW is holding up. And, if you’re on-site, stop by and say hello and maybe grab some stickers (note to self, fill pockets with stickers before leaving the house).

Gotta show some respect to the purple Ferrari Portifino on its third Daytona track day.

First session in the books. Anyone want to make any oil pressure guesses?

Too late.
I think I'm going to declare it cured. Lowest oil pressure was a momentary drop to around 50psi. I like this math

Wish I was there today instead of sitting at my desk at work!

I can feel the humidity of the first photo from here.  Thats my usual view through my glasses stepping out of my A/C into humid hell.

Glad the car has oil pressure!  Success!

Heh, I see fellow CFR autocrossers Ryan with the SC300 and Rachel with the Corolla hatch behind the 435i

Y'all are copycatting my M235 "build" every step of the way.

I feel so... so... Validated. :D

JG,

did you have to break in the new connecting rod bearings at all?

Doing bearings on my S54 now and forgot to ask the Bimmerworld guys what is the procedure. Last time I kept it under 5k rpms for 1200 miles, but those were stock, I picked up BE Bearings this time.

You'll need to log in to post.
