1985 Toyota MR2

14

Well, the MR2 is on the road again so I decided to post a better picture of her. I also added a link to a Cardomain.com page that details the full story of the car. Update: Added suspension upgrades included new sway bars front and rear that really transformed the handling of the car.

Akuma no MR2! >_> Nice car, even if it's a breakdownbaby.

Steelies painted anthracite, interesting. Hopefully I can get my MK1 up and running again with the Megasquirted Silvertop, in time for this year's auto-x season.

I also picked up a red 1985 mk1 for $400 with a bad clutch, cracked windshield, and dent in right rear quarter panel. I owned a lot of corollas and toyota trucks and love the dependability, so I figured why not a MR2? Replace your shift cable bushings, it makes shifting a lot more precise. Some guys are putting V6s in the cars. Sounds interesting.

I'll be watching your progress, as I also will likely copy your modifications. I've heard a quaif 2.5 ratio rack and pinion vastly improves low speed sling-a-bility of these cars and high speed stability as well. I've been practicing my clutch kicks, great for shifting more weight on the front wheels for hard turn-ins without locking up the front breaks. I also have seen the mk3 6 speed transmission in a mk1 lowers 0-80 times by 2 seconds. It gives one more option on turn in and powering out of corners.

Nice aw11. I'm just a sucker for these cars (also an owner). I second the painted steelies. Never seen that before for sure. Looks surprisingly good.

I traded my '85 for a '89 SC. I think the '85 handled better. The '89 just feels heavy and it plows all the time. I think I'll find a rear swaybar for it. But I love my supercharger.

One of my fav cars by far. I still have the rear strut bar...

nice to see another 85 aw11 on the site, just remember all the sweat and pain is worth it in the end Take a look at my 85 if you get a chance, maybe it'll give you some hope lol
